RIDGWAY, Pa. -- Elk County is keeping track of the location of gas and oil wells.The county just released a map of every gas and oil well location. That includes new Marcellus Shale gas wells.County officials are also working on maps of townships with lots of drilling activity. They include Horton, Jones and Highland Township.There are now plenty of Marcellus Shale gas wells across Elk County.Officials said the maps will give residents a sense of how many wells are around their communities.They can also help first responders familiarize themselves with the well locations."We don't want too many surprises, so we'll share the information we have, as best as it is available," said Matt Quesenberry, of the Elk County Planning Department. "So, they will realize what's going on, before they drive past something and they're suddenly caught off guard."The county map is available on Elk County's web site.WJAC-TV has posted a link on the "As Mentioned" page.
