The use of horizontal drilling in conjunction with hydraulic fracturing has expanded the ability of developers to harvest natural gas from shale formations leading to a boom in natural gas production across the United States. That same technology is spurring development all around the world. 41 different countries across South America, North Africa, and Northern Europe play home to rich shale plays as well. That number is growing as remote regions are assessed with a greater degree of accuracy. Many developing countries could jumpstart their own economies with safe, efficient, well regulated natural gas development.
